India Vs New Zealand schedule down the memory lane

India’s shocking exit in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

India and New Zealand played the semi-final on 9th July, 2019. It was written on the cards that India will easily defeat the kiwis to the play final at Lord’s. India throughout the tournament was a strong side and were the table toppers in the group stage.

This semi-final went into the next day as rain had played spoil-sport in the first innings of Kiwi batting.

The next day, the conditions became cloudy and it favoured the seam and swing bowlers. New Zealand set a target of 240 which was considered a low score for India to chase.

When India came to bat, the opening spell of Kiwi bowlers had blown away the Indian top-order (top 3 batsmen- Rohit, Rahul, Kohli) batsmen cheaply for scores of 1 each. Indian team was struggling for 24-4 and it was all left with the middle order batsmen to stabilize the innings.

Jadeja played a magical innings of 77 runs well supported by MS Dhoni who scored 50 runs. The biggest heartbreak moment for the India team and fans was Dhoni’s run-out by Guptill in a situation where India still required 25 of 10 balls. New Zealand eventually won the match by 18 runs and went through the final.

This upset by Kiwis has left a huge dent on the Indian team for not winning an ICC title since 2013 despite being a strong cricket nation.

New Zealand’s rare T20I whitewash at home in 2020

India toured New Zealand in the early 2020 for a full-fledged series of 5 T20I, 3 ODI and 2 tests as per India vs New Zealand schedule. New Zealand is considered a strong team at home. India had won the first 2 T20I matches of the tour quite convincingly. The third match of the tour went into a super-over from a situation when the Kiwis were on the charge to win quite comfortably. New Zealand failed to score 9 runs in the last over despite having set batsman Kane Willamson. In the end New Zealand had lost the match in super-over.

Coincidentally, the 4th match also went into super over which also was once again won by India again. Since New Zealand’s loss in the super-over at Lord’s final in 2019, it seems like New Zealand have struggled playing super-overs. They have struggled to win the final moments of the match.

The 5th match was also lost by Kiwis from a winning position. India whitewashed the Kiwis 5-0 at their own backyard. These 5 victories have made the T20I head to head stats better for India.
